Rusty tank 200

Howdy all.

I got a new to me 85'. It's been sitting for about 7 years with a full gas tank. Now it is but a rust tank. It is still solid, but I need to get it all cleaned out.

Any cheap (I am muy broke), ways of doing it? What is the best way, if I were to have dough?

Thanks all!

Buy a replacement off of the junk yard, that will be your cheapest option. Back in 99 I had a Datsun 280Z tank cut open, cleaned, sealed with a polymer and welded shut again, that ran $300.

Many, many years ago my neighbour ran around town in his Willys jeep using a Javex bottle. Nowadays, I'd use a 5 gallon outboard motor tank, straped down with bungees.

      Just kidding of course.

About the outboard tank. Javex bottle was real.

After all the stuff I've had to buy lately, I feel your pain at being "tapped out". Nevertheless, I'd like to tell you that I bought a new gas tank for the Volvo 200 series off ebay as a "buy it now" for $40.00 + $45.00 shipping (oversize box). So, for $85.00 I have a new tank. I could just throw it in there, but it is a "cheap" tank, and hasn't been treated inside or out with any anti-rust treatments. A few bucks more for a can or two of spray undercoating for the outside and some in-tank treatment (any suggestions anyone?). Other gas tanks I priced ranged from $200.00 to $400.00. I figure (comparatively speaking) that I got off pretty cheap at under $100.00 for the tank and undercoating spray. I think POR-15 products have some gas tank rust and sealant treatments you might look into - don't know how much they cost, tho.
