HEy guys. I am a FNG to this site and Volvo.
anyway, i purchases a 90 240 and it runs great even with the odometer sitting at 289.156 miles. did i mention the odometer stopped working about a year or two ago?
anyway, I am having some tail light issues.
I got one break light. no blinkers all around. replaced all the bulbs in the tail lights.
the blinkers worked for about 3 days and now i have nothing. not even the indicators on the dash is lighting up. i didnt see any blown fuses. Is there anything else I can do to see what is going on. I really need my blinkers.
if i cant fix them for cheap is there a jimmy rigged way to wire my own turn signals for my car?
let me know.
thanks.

Clean the contacts and make sure no water gets into the taillight assembly.

Tail lights are always a P.I.A. on these cars. More info please ...do you get a rapid click with the directional stalk engaged? If so then continue to didle around with the bulbs .. and clean the corrosion of the contact plates. If no rapid clic ... I pass off to someone else.

yes. I have dicked around with some of the bulbs and connecting plates. A friend and I found out tonight that the connector for the wiring harness on the driver side tail light has what it looks to be like burn or scorch marks on the circuit board side where that plugs in.
we played with the connector for a bit untill some of my dead bulbs came to life.
anyway, when i have the car just on and not started with the driving lights on, some bulbs work. when I start the car some goes out and others come on.
weird shit. I am stumped and intrigued by this.

Are you talking about the lights in the dash warning light group? When the key is in position II, engine not running, that is the bulb test position and all the lights appropriate to you car should light. Lights remaining on after starting indicate a problem.

The bulb failure warning system works only when the engine is running.

Yes, the connectors for the wires onto the tail light circuit boards tend to oxidize and burn and make for much frustration. BTDT many times. Each tail light circuit board has its own ground screw. Make sure it is clean and tight.

Yes, you have to pull the spare tire to access the left tail light housing.

        Good Luck,

        Bob

PS You might be able to get an Owner's Manual and the Volvo Service Manual for Electrical. Both must be for your model year.
