Door Check Stop Limiter 200

My 86 240 wagon has a broken part at 215k miles. It is the Door Check Stop Limiter of the driver door. So how hard is it to put the new one in?
Tom

Some tips that I learned. Before you begin removing the hinge, use a marker to outline both hinges on the door and door post. I had to loosen the top hinge a little at the door post in the process, causing the door to shift a little. This will help you properly align the door to its original position. The door is heavy, so be prepared to brace the door to prevent swinging and support the weight of the door.

    For the fun of Volvos,
    Mike

Tom, it is a replacement hinge you are looking for. How hard is it? Not hard at all to do. If you get the part from a junk yard donor, where you can pull it yourself, you get a bonus: practice.

Additional suggestions: Get a back door hinge from the junkyard. They are the same as the front door and they get used a lot less. Make sure you disconnect the battery, because you are going to have to move the fuse panel out of the way to get at the drivers door hinge bolts.

        Here is the broken part:

I tried to pull the other half out to do some welding, but just couldn't do it.
Do you guys know what holding it back there in the hinge assembly?
        Tom

          ...do some welding...

That's a piece of high carbon steel torsion spring, staked in place. You'll replace the entire hinge, and then keep the replacement lubed.

A thief broke into the local police station and stole all the toilets and urinals, leaving no clues. A spokesperson was quoted as saying, "We have absolutely nothing to go on."
