88 DL Running VERY lean. 200

I just bought a very good condition 88DL 5 speed. The car won't accelerate
past 75 MPH and was leaning out under acceleration, AMM looked good. New filter
bad pump maybe? Engine runs smooth not under load. With a bit of load it starts
bogging. plugs are REALLY white. Temp sensor? pumps? FPR? Any idea's before I dive in tomorrow?

Thanks,
Marc

Sounds like you're already somewhat familiar with LH2.2, though I'm not sure what a good AMM "looks" like. They can be responsible for white plugs, just as poor fuel delivery. The top speed makes it sound like a fuel delivery problem.

Without a pressure gauge, you can sometimes get an idea how the delivery is working by listening to and quickly squeezing the return line out of the regulator. I never had any LH2.2 cars, so first be sure your return line is squeezable - not the rubber over nylon type. To listen, run the pumps without the motor by jumpering fuse 4 to 6. If you hear the fuel rushing through the return hose, it is a good sign there's pressure above the regulation point. The regulators don't usually fail slightly high or low; they go all the way or rupture the diaphragm (rich). Pay attention to the sound made by the main pump. It should be a smooth hum, slowed or loaded by a quick squeeze on the return line, when you can hear the ball slapping in the regulator.

Thanks Art, If I was a betting man, I would put money on the tank pump. Have
a gauge but would need to make an adapter for the Volvo rail. I'll try and get some time to de-bug in the next couple of days.

I think the easiest adapter is made from another rail. Mine's below, Randy's is in the 7/9 FAQ and doesn't depend on brazing.

Fill the tank and see if things change... In The Tank

Hello,

Check the intake and hoses for air leaks. Don’t overlook seals and gaskets!!!
