Need new master cylinder? Is ABS same? 200 1991

The pedal on the 245SE slowly sinks to the floor if you keep your foot on the pedal, takes about 30sec. No visible leaks and fluid level is constant.
Car is SE so has ABS.
Does this sound like a failing master cylinder?
Is the ABS/non ABS cylinder the same or different (FCP has a 85-91, and a 91 -93).
IS there a rebuild kit available (none on FCP and Google search got nothing).
Worth getting a junkyard replacement? (new is $163 or $105).

The ABS MC is bigger than the non-ABS MC, but you could use a non-ABS MC, but I would not reccommned it on an ABS car. Going the other way is OK.

Using old used MC's are a chancy game. I just got through putting a near-new mc I had sitting around for more than 10 years onto my '78 242DL, and the shaft was frozen with corrosion from sitting, and had to take it out.
I put in a used MC from a '92 ABS 240 that I got two years ago, and was low miles, ~80k, but I plugged the ports and capped the shaft opening when I pulled it off the donor car. It is now working just fine in my '78 non-ABS 242.

If I had the $$'s I would buy a new ATE mc, or from Volvo, not re-man, as most fail within a year, not aftermarket either.

eEuro and FCP both have your ABS Master Cyl for $160 (New OE) which is probably the best you can do. The $105 one at FCP is the pre-ABS one.

RockAuto has only rebuilts by several companies for example:

Raybestos #MC390098 $195 No core charge (?)
Centric # 130390098 $159 No core charge (?)
BENDIX # R12690 $113+$50 Core charge

If you've bled the brakes (and have no bubbles) - then I'd say it's probaby the Master Cylinder.

Even though a MC from the junk yards are usually cheap - I never mess around with braking components, I ALWAYS get new/rebuilt. Good brakes are just too important!

Hope that helps
Charles

Hello,

Do you have a photo of the master cylinder?
