planning a major tune up, any suggestions? 200

doing the plugs, wires, rotor, cap. i'm thinking about throttle body cleaning and i've already done the pcv valve and air filter. oil changes are always done w/regular oil and mann filters. anything else?.. does the Amm need cleaning along with the throttle body? idle air control valve?

I don't think cleaning/servicing the flame-trap was mentioned. Some people change out the trans fluid with SYNTHETIC 10/30 in high mileage cars but I personally haven't tried this.

Might I suggest a flame trap/breather box cleaning? Also, I am extremely happy with my Kingsborne wires, and they have a lifetime warranty, which I used to replace one that burned through due to a short.

I'd add in a thermostat if it hasn't been done in a few years, and checking your accessory belts for cracks and wear.

Happy Bricking

While you're checking vacuum lines:

As of lately I've been using windshield washer hose (that I pulled from a junk yard car) to cut to length and replace all the little rubber elbows in the vac system (like at the pcv, tb to charcoal can, etc). You could go looking for the elbows but I think the washer tube is a little sturdier, costs next to nothing, and fits well in the range of sizes.

I need to do a TB & IAC cleaning also, hope it makes a nice improvement.
Happy wrenching!
K

I can only tell you that the throttle body and air control ALONE made my 160,000 1990 240 run like a little six cylinder. I ordered today the kit from IPD to clean the AMM and am excited that it will help, too. Not only for increased performance but fuel economy as well. Good luck and be safe.

Yeah,

I’d flush that tranny with Mobil 1.

If you mean major MAJOR, I'd include more. Depends on your miles. Consider engine/tranny mounts, drive belts, timing belt/tensioner, front engine seals, radiator hoses/thermostat. Flush coolant, flush tranny fluid. Replace smaller rubber hoses that may be cracking, or plugged. How's your brakes, flushed brake fluid? It'll run like a top.

For the fun of Volvos,
Mike

timing belt and tensioner will be done sooner than later (nowish). the brake flush will wait until the brake job in spring i guess. the tranny flush and fill might be attempted now, and the radiator is going to be flushed and filled (to get the dex-cool the "dealership" put in, out) w/g-05... rubber hoses are cool. brakes are nice all the way around for now.

Yes clean the throttle body, idle air control valve and make sure all associated tubing and fittings are not plugged with gunk. Use quality Bosch and Bougicord (wires) and copper spark plugs

I've got bougicord wires, bosch cap, rotor, and copper NGK's on the way. the ignition coil that came w/the car looks a little generic, but it starts, so i'm gonna wait on that until next year... unless it gives me problems.. like not starting. i'm not sure how to test if those are good or not, so i'm gonna leave it. a proper bosch one is 50 dollars away i know.

Someone probably replaced a perfectly good Bosch for no reason. I would get a used one from the junk yard they rarely go bad.

I did a parts search on what this ignition coil canister looks like, and it is one from A1-auto.. a generic looking one that fits up to 88' or the chrysler ignition years. it's probably crap, but is it super important to get that one out of there right away, or can it wait until spring?

Oh, what about the air filter charcoal cannister? I never hear much about it. Also, Bork Bork Bork, I just got my hoses to really fluch the transmission. It is very simple and uses I think I remember, 6-8 quarts of fluid to do it. (??)
