The silver, "every volvo 240 has them" hubcaps, do they serve any purpose?

    I thought my wife was going to refuse to drive our wagon after I forgot to put a cap back on after a brake job. Talk about spoiled, When I met her she was driving a Cordoba with a JY door of a different color and mags on the back with steels on the front.

    They are absolutely retro-cool, and of course make the brick aerodynamically invincible.

    The other day I saw pics of several cars with various split and widened stock rims. One set was some sort of later model Volvo steel rims, split, widened and reversed...but still fitted with 8" center caps and beauty rings. Very neat!

    If you mean the 8-ish inch chrome covers with the black centre piece, then yes. They protect the wheel studs and nuts from some of the road grime. Plus they look way cool, in an art deco kind of vibe.

      i was just wondering what the consensus was on them... helping keep grime off is one. also snow. also, brake cooling? or tracking/wind resistance? IMHO they don't look cool when they get grimy and broken, or the center "volvo glue-on" peels off. i think the rims look good plain or painted black.

      Has anyone ever painted the caps? they may look nice if they were all black..

        Hubcaps shown are more or less the same as mine in the 91 wagon. No big advantage over bare wheels, IMHO, aerodynamic-wise. I prefer covered hubs (except spinners) to bare wheels, but that's just me. Besides, each cap is worth a round trip to the cottage or a tanks of gas. I know what I'd pick.
