Dressing up... paint 444-544

Hi all. I'm a little stalled out on my 444 project, dead battery, bad brakes, and no place to really dig into the real problems in the coming weeks. I need some forward momentum... I've had a hankering to take off the fenders, 1 a weekend or so, and attempt to clean them up, weld up a couple cracks and paint them. Is it reasonable to take the car in bite size pieces over a length time when it comes to prep and paint? I imagine most people would want to get it all done in one swoop. Though separate pieces to practice on and get familiar with seems advantageous, for me at least. Less commitment I guess.

Do you really know what you'll find when the rears come off? The body around the join line can be be rusty and perforated. Good time to do it though. Getting the wings into 2 pack primer will get them ready for the overall paint job and speed things up a bit.

I don't know for sure... but thus far the car hasn't thrown any curve balls my way, so i'm pretty confident in it. Hehe. Famous last words.

I've been reading a lot about paints, but still don't have as much knowledge as i'd like... is the 2 pack (epoxy? two parts i'm assuming) primer ok in the weather?

"Old skool" grey, red, black primer is porous and will suck up any damp where the panel is stored. 2 pack/epoxy primer isn't perfect for long term storage but should keep the rust at bay if it gets a couple of coats after being prepped properly. If you can get friendly with someone in a body shop they might do you a favour by using up the end of a pot of primer from another job.
