time for IPD OD Bypass kit 200 1990

I tried replacing the relay, but the relay I got did not function. I emailed the (ebay) seller and he gave me a full refund, including shipping! Mine clicks and the dash light works just fine. So I assume mine functions.

So now, I believe the the next step is to try out the IPD OD Bypass kit. It seems to have helped many folks out with their OD so I Am hoping that is all she needs in order to fix the OD problem. That is, she doesn't seem to go into 4th gear or down shift properly or something like. (sorry, I had a very long day and am very tired, but wanted to give you all an update and get your opinions. Sis will post in detail Monday.)

Anything else we should try before the kit? I think we did it all or most of it. I am just tired of dealing with it and want it "fixed" NOW. So, bypass kit.

Rosy,

FYI, light on=overdrive off. It is an automatic, right?

Go here

http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/TransmissionAuto.htm#OverdriveRelay

And scroll to "eliminating the solenoid and manual downshift system".

I did this with my 87-740 automatic and it worked like a charm. Cost: I already had a dremel and the cutting head, so the cost was $0.

Read carefully, so if you chose to do this, you do it correctly.

Is yours a stick or an automatic? My experience with my automatic was the wires going down the shift knob were shorting out frying the OD relay. However I assume yours is a stick since you mention the IPD OD bypass kit.

You didn't ask but personally I would resolve the smog issue before I put more money and energy into other things.

As mentioned, That wire is known for flaking Insulation. Same with the backup light wiring for the manual Transmission cars. Check that first. You may get it to operate as intended.

Is the white wire still intact? 200 1990

Had the same problem on my 1990 - replaced relay and it clicked, light on dash lit and turned off just fine. The problem was the white wire that runs from inside the shift housing at the base of the shift lever through the transmission tunnel to the solenoid had been rubbed through, so the transmission couldn't shift into OD.

I replaced the wire and ran it in some flexible conduit where it routes under the car to help protect it if again was rubbed by the drive shaft. It works good as new.

The hardest part of the job was threading the new wire through the rubber grommet where it passes through the metal of the cab to reach under the car. I used some giant sewing needles bent into a hook.

Didn't someone post something a ways back about how to make your own bypass set up? Kris
