The darn key won't turn 120-130

So here is the problem. I have a 66' 122s, i started it about a month ago just fine, the battery died so i charged it, then went back to start the car, no go, the key won't turn to the right, it will go to the left and light up the dash but not to the left. Any ideas on why this is so and how to fix it. Thanks.

I had a similar problem with the keys in a 122. I took the original key to a key cutter here in Australia and they were able to look up the number in the Neuman key chart on line and produce a replica - no problem after that. Same thing happened with a key from a 144 and they were able to do the same for that. The push button would be a better way to go as it is recommended that the key be replaced at least once a year as they become brittle

The lock cylinder is worn. DON'T twist the key too hard or you'll break it!
Put a little light machine oil (NOT penetrating oil of any kind - they gum up!)
into the lock and work the key gently back and forth and it will probably work
eventually. More oil and wiping the dirty old oil off the key will help.
Like the other guy said, consider a push-button start switch to save keys.

The key most likley is bad. A locksmith can cut a new key back to the proper space and depth.. If your local locksmith does not have that information. A stop gap key can be be made by cutting a new key. The key cutter can fold a pice of paper and put the paper in the vice under the old key then cutting a new key. This will make the cuts in the new key a little higher. Most miss cut keys are to deep.

Push button start. I think everyone on here has done the conversion. Key is used to power the electrics and the button is used to start the car. Saves from breaking the key

Thanks for all the thoughts. I might do the push bottn starter. If the lock cylinder is worn, how easy is it to replace it and cost?
