Spacer to properly mount rear shock at trailing arm bracket 444-544

Hello,

We have finally run out of our supply of used spacers for the proper installation of the through bolt for the rear lower shock mount for the 444/544.

So we are having them made in case anyone realizes theirs are missing.

It is almost routine for this spacer to missing when we are installing new shocks.

All we can figure is that most people do not realize the spacers need to be retrieved from the old shocks and reused.

Or they are too lazy to press out the tube and shock bushing from their new cheap shocks so the correct mounting hardware can be used. This technique requires a new set of the correct style lower shock bushings halves.

Without this special spacer, the shock sags relative to the mounting bracket and will eventually damage the mounting bracket welded to the trailing arm.

This special spacer looks like a "T" nut you can get from a hardware store, but much larger and without the prongs and the internal threads.

Spacer to properly mount rear shock at trailing arm bracket 444-544

Is this the same kinda deal as the 140/164 rear shocks where they used to come with a swaged tube but then the factory put out a kit and used plain shocks later?

Hello George,

You might be thinking about the front shock mounts for the PV as these are very similar to the replacement shock mount update for the early 140/160.

The spacer to which I refer is not an update and was always included with each rear shock when the car left the factory, but not included with new replacement shocks.

Even though the upper and lower front shock bushings are the same as the rear lower shock bushings, Volvo, with their infinite wisdom, chose to use a different mounting design for the rear.
