Fan motor "contac unit' pinout, late 140/early 240 140-160 1973

While playing around with the electrical stuff putting the dash back together on
the Yellow Peril, I decided it MIGHT be good to see if the heater fan blows.
(It worked fine on all 3 speeds after I cleaned and repaired the motor.)
So I turned on the power and tried it out. NOTHING!!
So I pulled the console cover back off and took the fan switch out and noticed
there seemed to be one wire missing from the "contact unit". Sure enough, I found
the brown wire hiding in the shadows. I put it back into the "contact unit" and tried again.
NOTHING on 1 or 2 but seems to blow fine on 3. (Relief! Don't have to open the heater again!)
I checked the other wires and they seem to be OK but I still only get the one speed.
Next thing to try is to pull ALL of them out of the contact unit, pinch them to make sure they
are tight, and put them directly on the switch.
If that doesn't help, maybe I got some wires in the wrong place.
Can anyone give me the order of the colored wires around the "contact unit"?
I was careful to splice the wires to the same color wires when I refurbed the motor
and when I tried it out it indeed seemed to work normally, slowest on 1, faster on 2 and faster yet on 3.
I DON'T think I mixed them up, but there aren't many more choices!
Thanks for any help you can give!

Fan motor "contac unit' pinout, late 140/early 240 140-160 1973

    My 73 Greenbook says:

    Switch:
    1. 0.75 Yellow
    2. 1.0 Red
    4. 1.0 White
    A. 1.0 Brown (Inboard A terminal)
    A. 1.0 Green (Outboard A terminal)
These five are from the fan.

    3. 1.5 Yellow
Comes from 2nd Fuse (16 Amp)

I guess the number before the colour is the gauge in metric (0.75, 1 & 1.5mm squared)

Get the Greenbook in *.pdf format from here if you don't have it: http://www.k-jet.org/documents/greenbooks/100-series/?browse=1974+Model+Year

      Very succinct!
Many thanks, Paul. Hope your morning is GREAT!
From looking at the wires my guess is that the numbers are diameters.
(but the area and thus the current carrying capacity are proportional to the square of the diameter.)

With good copper, 1mm squared is good for 10 amps, 1.5 = 15, 2.5 = nearly 25, 4.0mm = nearly 40 amps (it carries less and less/square mm because the cooling surface doesn't keep up with the surface area).

The unprotected light switch & headlights bother me somewhat. If I had a 140 or 164 today that I adoured, I would protect everything with fuses & give the headlights a direct source of power with fused relays. (I've seen a few at the wreckers that had under dashboard fires)

The brown wire that came out of the contact unit went on one end, and since it was not
there, I mistakenly put the "yellow" power wire in its place on the WRONG end.
Then when I found the brown wire from the fan motor I put it on the other WRONG end,
          IAW Murphy's law.
Once I switched them I had three fan speeds of which the 3rd is VERY strong!
May the Lord shine His face upon you!!

Still looking for the other brown wire to go to the instrument light dimmer.

          Many thanks!
