good oil to use for 240 200 1989

Has anyone here had any luck with a 0W-40 oil in their 240s? I have normally just used a 10W-30 but where I live now in Illinois sees below freezing in the winter and sometimes over 100 in the summer. I only average between 2500-5000/ year on my car so I normally just do one oil change a year. My car is now due and with winter coming, I'd figure I would canvass you all for your thoughts.

If this helps, my local mechanic (and friend) who specializes in Volvo's uses 0-40W as his only oil. Similar, but slightly milder climate.

Well this is oncxe again is my "ex"-mechanics (best mechanic EVER!) suggestion (by email);

"I would add an oil heater in winter and use Chevron Delo 15w40 year round."

Makes sense to me.

Oil should be changed at least every 6 months regardless of mileage so I would suggest the lighter oil in the winter (though I've never used 0 -W40) and heavier in the summer (10-W30 should be fine). I'm sure the issue of synthetic vs conventional would factor in as well.
