Nylon Fuel line Broken 200 1990

Is there a good fix/replacement for the hard nylon fuel line from the Banjo fitting to the fuel rail. I haven't mic'ed it up for size yet; Dorman makes 5/16"-8mm repair line. What have any of you people done to fix this problem, would SAE 30R9 Fuel Injection hose work well enough? The burst rate is well high enough.
Thanks; Bob

I took a piece of the tubing to the auto parts store and they matched it to some generic brand of tubing. Exact same material. It was long enough to go from the filter to the rail. Had to cut a couple of feet off. Cost was about $25.

I think I was able to buy the line from tasca volvo for about $55.

        Hi Bruce,

There might be an alternative in the 240. My fiche shows p/n 1367523-6 for the 2822mm assembly through 1990, and 3547865-0 for a 2912mm long line used 1991 and up. Looks like Volvo declared one size fits all now.

Since you awakened me to the vulnerability of the banjos to rust, spending the money on new, vs used, will be my approach next time.

          Hi Art,

I guess one size really doesn't fit all. Not even two RWD B230 cars about the same vintage with about the same wheelbase. I don't recall where I got that 1342033 (940) number. Beechmont must have looked it up for me. Maybe the fact that the Regina's filter outlet is on the front makes a difference? At least the price for the 240 version has come down some.

I still can't think of what changed in 91 to make the line need to be 4" longer. Maybe some safety improvement in the route it takes? Something to make room for ABS? The rail didn't change until 92, methinks.

If you have a pick and pull near you that line comes off pretty quick. There's is only like 4 or 5 nylon brackets holding it to the body plus the connection at the rail and filter.

"...would SAE 30R9 Fuel Injection hose work well enough?"

Yes, but the type of connection might raise a question.

In my case, the banjo at the filter popped a pin-hole leak from rust. I ordered the (pricy) replacement line ($86 discounted from $111), but while waiting for it I found I had the right banjo on an old piece of "nylon" fuel line.

So I cut off the leaking banjo and replaced it with the one I found, bridging the junction with 5/16" I.D. 30R9 FI hose. I used 2 banded FI type clamps on each side of the splice for security, after roughing the nylon line surface for better hose grip.

In hindsight, I think that junk yard fix would have lasted as long as the rest of the car.

    Hi,

That would work well, however I believe that the ID of the hose is 1/4".

I used 5/16" OD Steel Tube for the undercarrage. It is more durable and less expensive. I flared the ends and fitted 1/4" hose adapters.

I recommend crimp clamps for the injection hose. The worm clamps always seem so seep.
