What is this? Do I need it? (Fuel pump related) 900 1994

This is mounted between the main, in-line fuel pump and the hard lines ahead of the fuel tank. I thought it might be another pressure regulator of some sort. The larger diameter hose on one end is leaking and I didn't know if I could just run a section of hose without it. First it would help to know what it is. Second, if it turns out I do need it, can I source this whole section somewhere? I'm hoping the leak in the hose was causing a lean condition I've been chasing for a while. Any help is greatly appreciated. This is off my DD and I need to get it back on the road ASAP. It's times like these that remind me you need two old cars if you're going to have one...

It is a 940. I have no reason to believe this was added to the car. I don't have the same exact thing on my 740 turbo, but there is a little rectangular thing hanging of the same fuel line, don't know if it serves the same purpose. The guys at Oreilly thought it might be diaphragm for preventing vapor lock. Looks like no one knows. Anyone else have a later 940 with a bosch fuel system that they can see if this is under their car too?

Might be an accumulator to silence some vibration.

Looks cobbled together to me.

Is this a 940 or 960?

What are you looking at? I'm just not getting the picture.

Supposed to be an image at

Couldn't see it when he posted it on TB either.

I love brickboard for the info, but the interface is confusing as heck. I rehosted it. Ok, what the... Why is it so hard to post a picture on here. My original picture shows up fine to me, but I can't for the life of me get the rehosted photobucket picture to show.

You obviously figured it out but I find the easiest way to display images from a Photobucket album here at the Brickboard is to:

1.Go to Photobucket and click on My Home at the top of the page.
2.Find the Account Settings button and click on it.
3.On this next page near the bottom click on Link Options.
4.Check the box for HTML for Websites and Blogs (Full Size) and then save.
5.Go to the Photobucket album that contains the thumbnail of the image you want to post
6.As you run your cursor over the thumbnail a box will appear below the thumbnail that is preceeded with “HTML Code”.
7.Click on the link in the box to highlight it and then copy it (Control C if you are a PC person)
8.That copied code is then pasted (Control V) into your Brickboard post where you want the image to appear.
9.Once you submit your post the image will displayed where you pasted it in the text.

Ahh, there's the image.

Ryan was right. Volvo's term is "absorber" and vadis has a note indicating it is a "service alternative" which, perhaps if I looked further into bulletins, might be indicated when the fuel pump noise was disagreeable to the owner.

My opinion says you could do without it.

And yes, everyone has one. An opinion that is.

Thanks! Yeah, I might just get a section of hose and delete it as it looks like a bunch of potential leaks to me.

Hi Art,

Glad I'm not the only one struggling with this mystery.

FWIW, my Firefox tab says the URL is for a:

"picture.php (GIF image, 1x1 pixels)"

Maybe if we really squint?

I wish I could tell you what that is. I have no idea. But hopefully someone else knows.
I can tell you it's not on my 740 and I don't think it's on my 240. Maybe a parts diagram will help you find it.
