sway bar bolt STUCK, tried impact wrench and not budging 900 1997

title says it all, my 1997 960 with the dual "lollipop" links. the bottom bolt sits nearly on the control arm, so it's a very tight fit with a wrench. I managed to piece together a couple of universal joints and an extension onto my impact wrench, but that didn't work, either. truth be told, I did not go the PB blaster or AeroKroil route yet, but I don't see how it would have worked if the impact gun didn't get it.

saw it off?

Try it with a ratchet. The Impact wrench attached to all the 'U' joints and extensions will give you much less torque then a 1/2" drive ratchet and muscle.

    Dear ChrisS,

Hope you're well. Saturate in PB Blaster and let it sit for a day. Then, re-saturate. PB Blaster finds micro-channels in the corrosion, and weakens the corrosion weld. The impact wrench may then break it loose.

Applying heat - if there's adequate clearance - also is helpful. To protect nearby items, you can buy at a hardware stop/home center a flame-resistant "blanket" (about 18" square) that plumbers use to keep a torch flame from damaging nearby things.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook
