B20 Rebuild and Need for Camshaft Gear.. and Retainer 120-130

Guys,
I started to rebuild a B20 for my wagon, and have done a fair amount of work.
I am saving what I do in a blog, mostly so I rememeber what I did, and how to to pu it back together. It's at theoldvolvos.blogspot.com
In the meantime, today I found I need to replace the cam gear, it looks OK but it's fear, and it got messed up on removal too. Also broke the retainer. If anyone is interested in selling the cam gear and the plate, I'd be interested, otherwise I'll buy the set.
Thx

Pic of plate below (copy paste until I figure it out...)

If the fiber gear's backlash is within spec & it looks OK, chances are it's good for another 100,000 miles. I've lost count on the amount of times I've recyled them & never had one fail.

Paul, you're right, but this being my first time going at it, the gear didn't quite make it out intact. I have to get a good puller for the next go. Thx.

Hard to tell about the plate from the pic.
If it is noticeably thinner in the worn area you should replace it.
Turning it over doesn't help, still got the same end play, just in a slightly different place.

George, it has a pretty good crack, it's gone
BTW, I should be sending the timing cover today, got a chance to get it nicely washed a the shop.

I took my first set of measurements with a digital caliper on the bores (using the cylinder bore extensions), I have an average of 3.526" in the front to rear and 3.529" on the perpendicular.
I am measuring again tomorrow, but going by the green book this engine may be close to the oversize. I am thinking I may send it out to the machine shop to get it checkd properly.

If you read your caliper correctly it is 0.025" oversize plus a little wear.
If you read it wrong it is standard bore plus a little wear.
Stock size is 3.5004 to 3.5008 (almost a thousandth bigger than 3½")
You might want to consider a Cloyes aluminum timing gear available through NAPA.

Best, IMHO, to replace the fiber gear and thrust plate with new. I got very good service at Vintage Import Parts. www.vintageimportparts.com.
E-mail Olof at vintage@telus.net. He will be glad to help you. He also has new gear sets.

I have bought from him in the past, very good supplier.
Sometimes people have bits and pieces left from projects, worth checking here.

        Dan-

I have a steel set that I got at a great price (~$25). If you're still in the Denver area, you can stop by and take a look at them. I'm still in the Denver West complex.

        Let me know.

        Paul
