Car stalled on bump, cranks but no ignition. 200 1988

Hello everybody. My car was running relatively well before I drove it over a speed bump in a nearby neighborhood. It stalled as I was going over the bump, so I stopped and tried to restart, just cranking and no ignition. Would anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    Another update 200 1988

Thanks again everyone for the tips! I had the car towed home. The connector to the hall effect sensor looks very loose, I'll try to pull the distributor and see if any of the wires there got disconnected. The cam rotates when I try to start the car. The 25 amp fuse doesn't look too good (it looked bad before the problems started). Doesn't jumping fuses 4 and 6 bypass the 25 amp? Also, when I tried starting it today, it felt like it was going to start for about a second, before dying out again.

I don't see any mention of the 25 amp fuse, so I'll mention that you should take a good look at the fuse and connector

Crank angle sensor?! Not on an '88 200 1988

dvoytenk, don't bother looking for the much suggested crank angle sensor...your car doesn't have one.

Sorry, I don't have a suggestion as to what the problem might be. But don't go looking for something that isn't there.

    Crank sensor most likely.

Have someone crank the engine while you jiggle the wire to the crank sensor & see if it starts.

After spending two weeks chasing down a no start & random stall situation on my son's 240 sedan, I finally found the culprit.... the Evil Yellow Band crank sensor. I got the car started & gently tugged on the sensor's cable at the plug on the firewall and she immediately died. Took it out & the insulation was cracked & nonexistent in several places. Replaced with a new one from FCP Groton (the best!) and she runs like new! Yeah!

If you are having these problems with your Bosch LH brick check the crank sensor!

    Hello,

Check the Crank angle sensor harness for fraying. It‘s at the back of the engine near the bellhousing.

    Update... no improvement 200 1988

Checked all the distributor wires and spark plug number 1. All connections seem ok. The spark plug is dry. Checked the ground connection by the battery and on the engine block. Still nothing. The car is parked at a golf course about a mile away from my house. I wish I could just get it to run for 5 minutes.

    Thanks!

    Is the coil wire attached?

Thanks for the advice. Yes, the coil wire is attached. I also jumped fuses 4 and 6, and heard some noise from the fuel pump. Tried to start, still cranking and nothing else. Checked wires to the alternator and spark plugs, everything looked ok.

Check through the oil filler cap to see if the cam is turning when you are cranking the engine over.
Wiggle the connector on the distributor for the hall sensor.
        Dan
