When driving back from southern Virginia up rt 81, I asked my GPS for a salvage yard and it directed me to Stuart's Draft, Va. They had about 6 240s and one 960. They had been pretty well picked over but I get a few clips, two great seat heater switches and some buttons for the paultry sum of $10.00. I saw some great looking alloy wheels inside the 960 and was quoted $200 for the four. Will they fit my 1990 240? I was in a hurry as they closed at 1:00 o'clock and did not measure the diameter or size.......also bought some Omish apple butter which had just been made and when I got home I tried it. You could taste the outdoors and love that went into it.s

    On the inboard side of the wheel, the size (offset being the critical number) is embossed on the hub area.

    On my '93, I have 700/900 wheels called "Hydra". Whereas the 240's offset (shown as "ET=" on the wheel) is 20mm, the Hydra is 25mm, a negligible difference, and these 6.5x16x25 wheels fit great.

    Later 900 wheels had a much larger offset, around 40mm or so, suitable for FWD cars, and they won't fit without a spacer (which will cost a lot of money for good ones).

      This weekend I insalled "turbine vane" wheels from a 93' 960 wagon (15", 6" wide with 195/65/15 tires) on my 93' 240 (14", 5.5 wide with 195/65/14 tires). 960 wheels with tires fit fine and look fine, but the issue is that the stock 960 center caps do not clear the hub grease covers of the front wheels.
      Any help would be appreciated in finding center caps that fit. I don't mind if the caps only cover the hub (I like the lug nots exposed). I tried newer model 2.5" black center caps (many newer Volvos have these, incl 850 models), but there is not enough clearance for the hubs so they don't work. I'm looking for guidance on finding center caps that are deeper.

    If it is an early (1994 or earlier) 960, they'll fit a 240. If it's 1995 and later, they won't. The later 960 has the FWD offset.

      Thank you, John for the reply. I will call the junkyard and ask what year. I had fun going through the cars and thinking how each one had been systematically stripped of goodies. It must be big business all over the country. Anyway, I guess each time I drive somewhere I will ask where junkyards are and go. Next time, I will bring the appropriate tools to scavenge.
