Need a charcoal canister 140-160

My '75 164 didn't have the canister when I bought it so when the opportunity for me to get one used came around I went for it, even though the seller told me it didn't have the tabs on top I figured I could some how rig it to work. Well today I was looking around online to see how the hoses are supposed to be routed and I noticed the complete canister has a two way hook up on top of one side for different size hoses. So my question to the members here is does anyone have that piece by it's self and if not then does anyone have an intact canister they're willing to part with.

This is what I mean (not my car).

Did you notice that the one in the picture isn't connected?

Is the law cracking down on you?

I was just using the picture as a reference that guy was parting his car out. I live in Florida, there's no laws about emissions, I just wasn't sure if the canister was somehow essential to the car's ability to function since I'm still working out all the kinks. Right now I have one of the lines coming from the rear of the car just sitting along the firewall and didn't know what else to do with it aside from capping it at the source.

My understanding of the charcoal canister is that it's purpose is to remove excess fuel vapors from the gas tank before venting that air into the atmosphere. In other words, it's EPA crap that's nonessential to the operation of your vehicle (although I wouldn't recommend leaving that vent hose in the engine bay).

That's my take on it; there's folks here much more knowledgeable than I that I'm sure will chime in.

That's my impression too. I have mine connected but it's never made a difference on the car running. Mine is a '71 164 (with the strombergs) and after almost 40 years that canister has to be useless by now from an emissions control standpoint. I'd connect it up and then not worry about it. There's probably a solution to get rid of it entirely but I never bothered with it.
