Get a "been sitting' car running 200 1991

Hey everybody,
I had a look at a '91 245 wagon the other day. It's been sitting for 3 months and wouldn't start. I tried my battery and it barely turned over. Is a new battery the only way to go or can it work with just cleaning electrical connections? How do you get 'em going?

Thanks
John

Just curious -- when you tried your battery, did you take it out and put it in the '91, or use jumper cables?

...jumper cables. Not enough connecting surface, resistence problem or something?

I never really did figure it out, but last spring when I tried to get #1 daughter's been-sittin' '90 started, even my 20 lb. welding cable jumper set failed. Brought a charged battery next time, and it was no problem. Fired right off. This set of cables has thick solid copper jaws - put together back when copper was 40 cents a pound.

I'm sure you're right - surface area of contact...

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

I didn't even think about at the time but the thin jaws of these cables were hot, hot when disconnecting. I guess it makes sence..

I'll call her again, I'd like to get it running 'cause I think I want it!

          Thanks Art

          John
