Front Seat Exchange 90 900

I have a '91 940. Has anyone did a switch of the left and right hand seats? My
driver's seat is worn and was wondering if I can swap it for the passenger side, just wondering if anyone has done this..thanks for reading

You can't swap the whole seat, but you can swap the lower and upper cushions. It's easiest if the seat is out.
I have covered this several times, it's not terribly hard, and good passenger seats are much easier to find. Do a search maybe, or look at some other recent posts about this.

I did it in our 90 740. I can't see why it wouldn't work in your 940 - they're virtually the same car.

      Chris,
did you swap the entire seat assembly, rails and all? As you may remember, although the bolt patterns are the same the rails have studs on the bottom that lock into slots in the floor. I'm wondering if the studs are the same on both sides or if they are mirror images (if the latter, then rails would have to be transplanted from seat to seat).

      thanks,
      John

No, I left the seats in place and just removed the lower cushions.

It's been a while since I did it but I'll try to remember here:

I'm pretty sure you first have to remove the storage tray from the outboard side of the seat.

You will find yourself sliding the seat fore and aft and reclining the back up and down a couple times during the cushion removal process.

Both the front and back of the cushion have a flap hanging down that wraps around the seat frame. If you feel along the seat frame you will find one or two large circlips that are snapped onto the flap and seat frame together. Work (yank) the circlip(s) off.

There is a loop sewn in the hem of each flap through which a long skinny bar passes and pokes into little holes in each of the seats side frames. Make note of which holes the bar pokes into because there may be more that one. I seem to recall just getting a couple fingers between the Flap/bar and the seat frame at about mid seat and bowing the bar down in the middle until the ends pop free of the side frames. The bars are sort of a spring steel so they should return to nearly-straight

Next, look for a small S-clip on each side of the cushion that also hooks on the seat's side frame. The inboard ones are kinda hard to get a hold of because you have to pull the cushion away from the center console.

Start to lift the cushion and peek undernieth to see how to disconnect the seat heater wires. The cushion should now be free.

        Reinstall cushions in reverse order.
