Intermittent electrical problem - Where to start? S90-V90

I have a 1998 S90 with an intermittent electrical problem. Sometimes when I start the car, I cannot shift out of park. The brake interlock does not work. I have to push the over-ride button to get it out of park. Also, the blinkers don't work. Since it's intermittent, it can't be a fuse. Do both of these things run through the same wire harness or relay? I'm really perplexed as to how to diagnose this. Thanks for any thoughts you can give me.

The shift interlock not working is fairly common. Most likely it is the micro switch in the shift console. There maybe some discussion and instructions in the FAQ. You still might have to do some trouble shooting.

As for the blinkers, do you mean turn signals, or the 4 way flashers or both?

I would check your bulbs first, make sure all are working bulbs (not burned out), also check the bases to make sure all are making full contact.

If that fails, then the it could be the turn signal lever but more likely the flasher/relay built into the 4 way flasher switch, a very expensive item from a dealer.

Thanks for the reply Dan. I meant the turn signals. They seem to quit working at the same time. I've also discovered that when the interlock and turn signals quit working, the cruise control quits working. In other words, they all work, or they all don't work. I'm thinking there is a common denominator. The cruise control is on the turn signal stalk. Is it possible the interlock wiring goes to a common wiring bundle or harness or relay? I guess I'll dig around tonight and look.

Also try jiggling the ignition key, you might have a worn switch.

Causing some items to get turned off.

Wow! That was it Dan. Jiggled the key a little and everything started working. Thanks for your help. Mark this one solved.
