1989 240 Wagon 500.00 what problems to look for 200

HELLO I am looking at a 240 wagon a friend is selling. It has 161k body and interior in great shape runs and drives nice. Only problem I found was a slight winding in the trans when cold, goes away after a few miles. What problem areas should I be looking for. I have had several 850 and V70's but no 240's Thanks for all your help

Manual or auto? How's the tranny fluid look?

Check for tranny and engine leaks. How's the flame trap? A clogged flame trap is a major cause of engine seal leaks.

Many 89's have a bad computer. If it has a pink label you should replace it with a white or yellow label model. I forget the exact #'s but a good one I believe is 900 something.

Hmmm...

HVAC fan -- if it does not work, a hassle to replace.

Aero headlamp lenses clouded up -- expensive.

Incorrect tire size -- 185R14 originally; 195/75R14 or possibly 205/70R14 (if it doesn't rub) will give similar diameter and load rating, but 185/70R14 is often incorrectly used, resulting in speedometer error and less load capacity.

Rubber hoses and stuff cracking and leaking -- can cause drivability problems and emissions test failures.
