1990 245dl problem after problem after PROBLEM... 200 1990

So... After having the external fuel pump, air filter, fuel filter, idle air control valve, mass air meter, spark plugs fuel injector temp sensor and crank position sensor replaced and the 25 amp fuse cleaned, the car ran pretty good- there were a few times when the idle would suddenly drop, but not stall out. The other fuses are clean the alternator checked out ok and the battery's 2 yrs old

BUT, all of a sudden it started making quiet popping noises today, then suddenly I lost almost all power and when I pressed the gas nothing would happen- then it would suddenly surge forward a couple feet and then I'd lose power again. All of a sudden it ran fine again for at least 1/4 ml. Parked it for a couple of hours and when I started it, same weird symptoms... Managed to get it the other 1/4 ml to home. I checked my ECU and it has a yellow label- could this latest problem be another symptom of a faulty computer that somehow 3 different volvo mechanics have missed??

Now I'm really really at my wits end and feel like I can't find a decent mechanic out here to save my brick's life!!

Yellow label 556 is failure prone just like the pink label 561. A white label 933 or 946 is the upgraded one for 2.4 with EGR. I have a couple spares from the local pick and pull. Send me an email if you want.

I've had a similar problem a few times and for me it's usually been fuel: clogged filter, water in tank, crimped line, failing pump. I had a new pump fail 3 years ago.

I've also had a problem like that caused by broken wire and/ or bad ground.

Here you go. From Yama's earlier post. No guarantee this is the problem though. Yellow label is bad as indicated. Maybe someone can loan you a white label one and you can switch for awhile to test the ECU (computer).

I bet the crank position sensor has cracked shielding, before spending much more wrap it w/ aluminum heat tape. You can get a roll in a home depot for $5,they use it to wrap leaking exhausts on oil burners.
&then you may have a wire that is cracked on the in tank,,pump..that sound s like my 245 3 yrs ago,,,many small cheap fixes,,that happen because the cars last toooo long..chk back &or use the search engine here,You'll find easy cheap answers.
