ECU update???? S90-V90

I saw "RWD forever" postins about his check engine light woes.....
better mileage and more power are very appealling to me with a new ECU...

So ust what is the "ECU" and what does it do, how much $$ is a new one,
and can I install it on my own with some basic tools???

Any reply will greatly appreciated!!!!

If you don't know what the ECU is you probably don't need one.

ECU = Electronic Control Unit, A small metal box with microprocessor and factory burned in program. Your car if a 97 vintage it has several that control the AC, tranny, engine and more. They typically never fail nor deteriorate, they either work or don't work and are best left alone.
