key stuck in ignition 1993 240 wagon help 200 1993

My 80 yr. old mom called me from 4 hours away after luckily arriving home but unable to get her key out of the ignition of her 1993 240 wagon . I asked if she tried to turn the wheel back and forth to free it but she said that had not worked She has spent about 2000 $ on this car in the past 3 months and is very upset because she is very attached. Any ,hopefully simple, cheap, ideas????

I purchased a 1994 944T with the ignition key stuck in the ignition. The problem with it was the cable connection between the ignition and the shifter.

The fix that worked for me was to remove the cluster and disconnect the cable at the ignition lock. Removing the cable enabled the locking mechanism at the switch to engage which in turn allowed the key to be removed when the car was turned off.

Neutral safety switch could be out of adjustment? Try moving the gear selector from park to N and pack to park, firmly pushing the gear selector towards park and push hard once it's in park. That might do it.
