I use NAPA 1304 filters in my '60. A spin on filter w/ adapter would be nice, but for the mileage I drive it, it's probably not worth the cost.

10W-30 "name brand" for the oil. I haven't been real concerned about the additives for old engines. This car only sees about 1000 miles a year. I guess I'm taking a chance.

When you purchase your motor oil, make sure you get the "Old Formula" SF rated oil. This has the necessary additives (phosphorus, zinc, etc.) for the solid lifter engines used pre-catalytic converter days.

Strangely enough, I can still get it from Wal*Mart - they have Accel brand oil that is specifically marked for "Model years 1988 and earlier". I have used it (10W-40) exclusively for three years without a problem in my B18D. Much more reasonably priced than the "Racing Oil" that you can get at most of the Automotive Specialty shops like O'Reilly's, Advanced, etc.

Current formula oils are not "slippery" enough for our solid lifters and pushrods.

Hello,

Filter kits are still available from Volvo, but expensive.

Aftermarket filter kits are also available.

We stock both.

We prefer 30w engine oil, but age and/or weather conditions can be factors to consider.

4 quarts are needed.

But good practice is to fill with 3 1/2 quarts after the engine is drained with a new drain plug washer and the filter is changed, run the engine to circulate the fresh oil, shut down the engine and wait 4-5 minutes, recheck the oil level and top off if necessary.

Hello Paul, I'm very interested in the SU filters site spin-on adapter - I would guess this would allow for the use of a more modern ie better oil filter? Anyone have this adapter? What oil filter do you use with it?
Thank you.
Regards,
Jim

I have one of the JD Garde (old kombi) spin on adapters. It works well with B18 oem filters.
I use Mann filters with it.
