How is battery secured? (1995 940) 900

I just noticed my battery is floating around and there is some loose hardware nearby. I have in my hand a long rod with some threads and a squarish clamp but I see no place to screw the rod into. (Even using a flashlight). Normally, would that rod sit in front of the battery? I'm guessing there should be a threaded are somewhere.

    In my 940 the battery is down very low. The long rod is to reach down there and control/secure the part that clips the bottom front edge of the battery to the tray. It is hard to describe but perhaps pull the battery and if you have the lower part that secures the battery, you can see how it fits on the tray and on the battery, and how the long rod is used because you can't reach with your hand down to the tray.
