It's a regular thread... 36mm, IIRC.

An impact should break it off... if not, a breaker bar and cheater bar out to do it without too much pain.

Supposedly these are not serviceable.... but some folks have repacked them. I've got an old hub outside that I've been meaning to dissect. Inside there's just a loop of ball bearings.

What kind of lube to repack with is the question.

I couldn't tell if anyone responded to you yet. I have a '91 740 Turbo. The bad news is that unlike earlier Volvos, the wheel bearings are sealed in a hub assy. As far as I know, they are not serviceable. Unless your bearings are making noise, there is no need to replace them. I have priced the hub assy at AutoZone and they cost approx $129.

Those bearings are not the type that you might be familiar with from previous Volvo experiences. They are not the clean, inspect, repack maintenance project. With these you replace the hub and bearing assembly with new.

I had to remove the hubs on one of our 940's and it took all my strength on a LONG 1/2" breaker bar to remove the nut.

Read up on the task in the FAQ's (http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/FrontSuspension.htm#FrontWheelBearingandTwoPartHubRebuild). If the bearings seem OK they probably are. Our 745T had 253K on it when I sold it and it was just fine.
