Red Block Paint 200

Hello faithful bearers of the red. This is an old topic, but the old info is "expired", so to speak, as Tempo Red 020472 is no longer being made. What are the faithful painting red blocks with these days? Marine stores have several different reds from I-don't-know-who for Volvo (Marine Parts Express lists four reds), but none of the suppliers seem to know which number red matches the auto-engine red of the 70s-80s-90s. Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks all for the input. I just spoke to the local Penta dealer here in Lancaster. He says the stuff is still out there, being made by Tempo, but that Tempo is having some organizational problems and supply is spotty (no, they are not closed, he says). More important though, he says they stopped using the "Volvo" paints a couple of years ago because the coverage is awful. Price is high, and it takes way too much paint to cover an engine. He recommended seeing what the local engine rebuilder has on the shelf for earlier Ford and Chrysler reds. That's what he uses these days for earlier Penta motors.

Swedish Treasures should still have the OE paint.

I plan on using the POR Ford t-bird red.

Bingo. Searched this morning, but didn't find that post. Number is still good at Penta's site. I can order right there. Looks like there are a couple of Penta dealers within a couple of miles. Maybe they've got it on the shelf.

Thanks much,
DS

I don't know about anyone else but I am painting the engine I've rebuilt for my daughter's '93 244 hot pink! That's what she wanted. Hey, you gotta do something different for a 16 year old's first car!

Be carefull with pink. That's the favorite color spray paint for a scrubbed engine in California. Scrubbed means filled with silicate solution and ran until it stops.

P&P cannot sell parts from those engines so marked! Smog people may get stupid down the road over it. You just never know.

I think I used Chevy orange on mine, or maybe an old Chrysler red. It looked very "right"
