How much would you pay for this '94 945t? 900 1994

I'm looking at buying a '94 945 turbo with 170k, with repair records dating back 9 years at a reputable Volvo shop.

Positives: Second owner, extensive maintenance records, oil changes every 3k, no rust, includes second set of wheels with almost new snow tires (Blizzaks).

Negatives: Fuel pump is noisy, will need rear brake rotors, A/C doesn't work, rear power window switches don't work, check engine light is on, leather seats are cracked.

Seller is asking $1800. Seems like it may be reasonable due to the fact it has records, but I'm worried about more electrical problems cropping up. I can live without A/C however and a few quirks don't bother me. How much would you pay?

Price sounds right to me. Seller should jump at $1500 cash.

I purchased a similar car in what sounds like similar condition for $2400, 2 years ago.

As others have said, things will break and will need to be fixed. How much time and/or $$$ are you willing to invest? When I purchased mine, I thought it would be the perfect car for me, and one that I could hold onto for a long time. But in the end, it is a 17 year old car that in my case, is "nickel and diming" me to death. Every few months, $200 here, $75 there, and that's with me doing all of the work. If I had to pay someone's labor, repairs would be considerably more expensive.

Let us know what you do, but I too agree with another poster who said that a different car may be better for you...

$1800 seems like the right price from a private owner. I would check those records closely. A nice set of service records can be worth $$$ IMO . Look for suspension and exhaust work. I bought a wagon with similar mileage that had $3000 in in recent work. That's money and or time that I shouldn't have to spend in the near future. good luck

That doesn't sound like a bad deal at all. What kind of car can anyone expect to get for under $2,000!? Has the classic solder failure been addressed on the A/C control unit? That is relatively inexpensive, if that's what it is. If not, you can always inject dye into the system to check for leaks. Having a second set of wheels is very nice, and as Jerry mentioned, worth at least $300 bucks. RE: the Check Engine Light could be anything. My CEL winks on and off at me, usually during the summer months (oddly, seldom during winter). My mechanic has pulled the code and each time it goes back to the MAF. In my case, the MAF sensor develops corrosion which sets off the light, but is more of an annoyance at this stage than a major system failure. If the seller would allow you to take it to an indie or stealership, have them pull the code. As far as the cracked leather seats are concerned, even my mom's '09 S80 has them, despite being treated with Lexol conditioner on a regular basis. Few folks on here, I'm guessing, have flawless leather in their 17, 18, 19 year old cars. Anyway, to give you an idea, just the other day I bought a two-owner '93 945T from a mechanic with 190K miles. New belts, seals, etc. No dash lights, A/C works. Front leather seats have some cracks but decent overall; interior smells new, VERY clean. Moonroof works. Rust-free California car. The car has the usual scratches/dings for a daily driver, and the clearcoat is shot on the roof. I paid $1100. I don't know what the paint looks like on the car you're interested in, but I'm planning on spending around $700 or so to get my wagon looking sharp. ANY used 940, or 17 year old car, for that matter, won't be perfect, and if you're getting a reliable ride for under $2K, go for it. I'm dying to know how these supposedly 'perfect' $900 940s in MA are looking like.. I clicked on the Boston Craigslist and didn't see anything too outstanding.

No rust in MA? Damn. I'm from there, had many Volvo's there and most had some rust. But, 'only' 170k, that's not bad really. With records is good.
Spare wheels/tires; those are worth $3-500 alone it seems to me.
"seats cracked", there's cracked on the surface, and there's tears through the fabric. Lexol will help the former, a good pass side will provide the material to fix the driver's if you need the covers/cushions.
    Rotors are cheap and easy.
A/C could be simple, that's an R134 system so recharging is easy.
Both rear window switches; seems odd, is it that the front control is set to 'off'?
Noisy pump; my old 740 had a noisy pump for about 6 years, til it was hit.
It depends on what's been done recently, like shocks, timing belt, basic stuff that will cost if you have to do it soon. If the mech has a clue they should know what may be going on with the check engine light.
And, how the car looks and feels. I might pay that for it, depending on those answers.

    Hi,

I just checked the local listing here in Massachusetts and that price is above the norm for here. They start at $895 and run to about $1500, and most say they need no work. Secondly I noticed that this is your first post, if your not going to make these repairs yourself I would not recommend buying this car.

"check engine light is on," with records from a "reputable Volvo shop." That seems like a bit of a contradiction. Can you find out what is wrong? Also, are you sure you can live without AC? 30 years ago I never had AC, but have learned to really appreciate the benefits of AC to reduce window fogging.
