Testing the CO on my 1983. 200 1983

Can anyone point me to the postings giving direction on how to test the CO on this '83 245. I have the multimeter. The AMM has the adjustment screw, with no cover, and I don't know how to measure the fuel richness and adjust. It seems this car is getting poor gas mileage, although running smooth. jg

Hook up to the voltmeter to the O2 sensor and ground it. You should be getting a reading that bounces around between .1v and .9v once the car is in closed loop mode.

Adjust the AMM mix screw until it seems to be centered around .5v

The more accurate way to do this is with a Tach-Dwell, but if you don't have one of those, the volt meter on the oxygen sensor will suffice. Keep an eye on your plug condition.

Hello,

You must have access to a carbon monoxide concentration quantifier. Without the measure of monoxide within a whole exhaust sample, you will not be able to correctly adjust the fuel mixture.

On the other hand, you could try your luck with the "Check/Adjust Idle Mixture" instructions on Bentley pages 241-27 and 28.
