Cynthia Amendt - RIP

A long time Brickboard member died yesterday. She succomed to brain cancer after 5 long years of treatments. Cynthia was an avid Volvo owner: 544, 122, 240, 740, 850 model cars have parked in her parking space.

For those not on the carringbridge network:

"Cynthia had a very good day on Sunday with visits from close friends, including Fanny. She knew people were there with her. There were readings, hugs, a massage and she seemed at peace. Later she moved to a new phase and went to a deeper sleep. Yesterday she really was not conscious but probably sensed the presence of those around her or on the phone. Early this morning her noble heart stopped beating and she is now truly at peace. She still has something to teach and her remains have been accepted by Mayo Clinic.

We want to thank those who have been a part of her life during her illness and before and who cared for her. Somewhere she is walking in flowing silk, with Jason, Emma, Murphy, Eddie, Flo and other four legged friends at her side. Rest in peace my friend.

I’m putting together an email list of those who would like to know of any gatherings or celebrations of life. Please contact me if you would like to be on it.

Joan"

Details will follow on the OPINIONS section of the Brickboard.

It is truly impressive how long she soldiered on for. It is a tribute to her grit and determination to challenge whatever life chose to throw at her.

A former colleague was diagnosedwith a brain tumor around the same time and was gone inside a year.

She was so enthusiastic when she got her camping trailer, but I think never really got to use it as she was diagnosed shortly afterwards. It was fun corresponding with her about it. I wonder if she actually ever fitted the split charging system to her 122....

An admirable lady, rest in peace.

Peter.

Caravan

Peter,

C.A. did get to use her trailer. She hauled it to Maine and then to North Carolina where she stayed at an art colony for a couple of weeks. The trailer is in her back yard in need of a little spit and polish, but is in great shape. She never was able to register it in MN because it came from Belgium and was without import papers? She just stuck a bogus plate on the back for the out of state trips :)

I have her 220, it has been converted to an alternator. What 'split charging' system are you refering? Except for all of the rubber parts falling apart from being stored outside, it runs great!

The camping trailer had a battery to run the internal 12 volt electrics. That battery is charged from the car charging system via a split charge relay. Basically it stops the camper electrics from flattening the car battery if the two are hooked together. I sent her a European style split charge caravan relay for the 120 together with the plugs.

I don't think the trailer would ever have had it's own registration document, to tow a trailer you simply stuck the car's number plate on the trailer. They are now registered independently in some European countries, in the UK however we still simply use a third number plate.

When I first saw the caravan, Cynthia gave me a tour of the insides. Quite impressive. She did mention something about the relay you described, but I think it is on the caravan and not on the Volvo.

The only relay I found on this 122 is the headlight relay in the engine bay.

Too bad I cannot buy the caravan from the estate, but there is absolutely no place to park it close to my house. It would make for some interesting trips behind a 1967!!
