Foreign transaction fee when ordering from Skandix? 120-130

I ordered some small parts via the Skandix website via credit card earlier this month. They were shipped from inside the US (Michigan maybe?), and I was pretty sure they operated a division here in The States. Just looked over my CC statement and noticed a $5 "foreign transaction fee". The ONLY purchase I can think it might be in realation to is the Skandix order, which shows up as "WWW.SKANDIX.DE LUTTER DEU" for the merchant. Has anyone else experienced this?

I too recently ordered items from Skandix AG. The box arrived via registered mail from Germany. Shipped via Deutsche Post (the German Postal System). So far, no "foreign transaction fee" has been charged to my credit card.

Foreign transaction fee when ordering from Skandix? 120-130

I just confirmed with the CC company that the Skandix transaction was what resulted in the fee. They said the payment was processed through Germany, altough it was in USD, over a .com website, and shipped from Michigan. So, a 5% fee was added. Being a customer in good standing, they removed the charge as a courtesey. In the future, the possibility of fees will probably steer me towards other suppliers when I need parts. I realize it's not Skandix's "fault", but I think they should warn customers about the possibility of fees, or find a way to process payments domestically. As credit card companies are reeling to extract more fees from people to make up revenue negated by the CARD act, I'd expect to see these charges more and more frequently.

        Hello,

Maybe if you use paypal (their account is the same as the url) to pay for the transaction you can avoid the fee?

        cheers,

I would suspect so, as the payment is processed via paypal instead of Skandix.

an unsubstantiated treatise on foreign exchange 120-130

I believe the FTF is a way for the card company to 1 make some money 2 pay for the exchange of funds from one currency to another. Individuals and most companies cannot convert currencies w/o using an agent licensed to do so. That's where the fees come in. When I deposit funds into a Canadian account I have from my stateside bank I must either send a check and take whatever rate the bank in Canada decides to give me on that particular day or use a transfer agent on line that states the exchange they will give on the spot. They take a small fee for their trouble by giving you not quite as good a rate as they are getting. This is already reflected in the rate they are offering to you.

Foreign transaction fee when ordering from Skandix? 120-130

    Hello Red92s,

I order most of my Volvo stuff through skandix, and I've never experienced a "foreign transaction fee". It may be a mistake, or a new fee. I'd shoot them an email just ask the folks at skandix I've always found them to be pretty agreeable.

    good luck,

Oh I doubt it's something on Skandix's end. I'm thinking my CC company saw the wesite address in the merchant description and decided to try and stick me with a fee I wouldn't notice.
