Very rough start, but cleans up. 700

The water loss has been stopped, but upon cold start, it feels like half of the cylinders are not firing properly... seems to be water could cause it in cylinders, but water level stays at same spot. What could be causing such a rough start but withing 30 seconds after start it smooths out. Checked plug wires, but that seems it would stay rough. Any ideas? Pressure in cooling system is fine, keeps pressure for an hour or so after cut off.

Sometimes idel air valves get gummed up and stick when cold. Later after getting warmed up they can start working again..

Very rough start, but cleans up. RESPONSE 700

Yes, it has had new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, and air filter. It does have onboard diagnostic console. Going out to see what that shows now. After replacing the shaved head, and all the other misc. items in the cooling system, and re-setting the timing, the first start was not as bad as now. When car gets completely cold, it is really rough, then when it is warm it idles fine at about 600 rpm. but warm re-starts seems like not enough gas/air to fire immediately, kinda have to give it a little gas pedal to get it to start quicker, but it will eventually start with out my pressing the gas. Anyway, the car is a '91 740 SE Turbo. with 212 k miles on it. WHAT IT THE PROPER METHOD FOR USING THE ONBOARD DIAGNOSTIC CONSOLE, BOOK I HAVE IS VERY VERY VAGUE ABOUT IT. Thanks

        Only ERROR CODE found 700

I was only able to get one error code from diagnostic system: 3-1-2 Which, according to book, translates into "No Knock enrichment signal from DI system" When I followed the book's instructions and pressed the diagnostic button twice, the light flashed continuously, and when I pressed it 3 times, it did the same, HOWEVER there was also a clicking at the same pace as the light, across the engine sounding like it was coming from coil area???? Anyway, that is the only code I get in terminal #2 and terminal #6 showed only 1-1-1 "NO error message". Where do I go from here? #### OH, drove my car last about 7 p.m. last night (for about 10 miles) and it is now 3:45 pm the next day, and there was still pressure in coolant system, so does that rule out water into cylinders upon stop??!!! ####
Checked connection to Knock Sensor, and it was clean and secure..

There is a section on the OBD in the 700/900 FAQs.

Thanks Charley, I found it, and plan on going over to a friends house to get him to help me with code reading since he has wifi and I can use laptop on car while doing it :)
I greatly appreciate all your help and that of the others. this is a tremendous site!! (Though I wish they would get rid of some of my extra b.s. posts that do no good hahaha )

I don't remember what year car you have, but maybe it has an OBD (on board diagnostics)that can be read without a scan tool. I would start by looking to see if it has any codes stored. Not all codes set off the check engine light. Also, someone who might know would probably need to know if it is a Bosch or a Rex Regina.
