Question on wagon rear quarter glass 700 1991

Due to my own stupidity, I am in need of a driver side rear quarter glass(the big un). I noticed on car-part.com and elsewhere that they have two listings. One with antenna and one without. This has me scratching my head a bit as I do have an antenna back there but I really don't see what that has to do with anything. It is an automatic antenna in the left rear pillar. Anyone know if this actually makes a difference and why?

Thanks,
Marc

Question on wagon rear quarter glass 700 1991

The last 2 years of the 945 had the antenna on the rear quarter window--looks like a defroster grid. If you have a power antenna in the D-pillar, you can get the plain glass.

Have always wondered how well that glass-mounted antenna design actually receives.

if you have an antenna in the pillar then it is not in the glass, although if the only glass available to you has an antenna in it,then use it any way and leave the wire going to the glass unplugged.

Question on wagon rear quarter glass 700 1991

Is that a reference to the attachment on the glass associated with in car phones? I believe our 1991 745T had that device, a block 2" square with a silver center glued to the inside of the glass.

Question on wagon rear quarter glass 700 1991

No. The imbedded antennas are like defroster lines in the glass on the left rear side of the 1994-95 940 wagons. Your 740 can use this glass OR glass without the lines as you have the regular mast antenna. Come to think of it, may be you can convert your car to the imbedded antenna IF you got that glass. Bottom line, your 740 can use ANY 740 or 940 rear side glass.

Question on wagon rear quarter glass 700 1991

Thanks for the info guys! The thought of some sort of integral or ancient cell phone antenna crossed my mind but I just didn't recall ever seeing one.

Now just to decide whether I want to do this myself. I do almost ALL work on my vehicles. Just never had to mess with glass much. This looks pretty straight forward really. Butyl tape and a handful of retainers and trim. Anyone ever done one?

Question on wagon rear quarter glass 700 1991

My first thought is to tell you that it is pretty straight forward, not too difficult, and hard to get it wrong.I'm sure that if you have the confidence to approach the job then you most likely have what it takes to get it rite, but if you have little experience with glass and only one replacement piece on hand then my suggestion is to...
(1)research glass handling and installation(youtube has a couple of trainings)
(2)go to the auto salvage yard and practice on a similar siuation
          good luck

Question on wagon rear quarter glass 700 1991

Pretty sure the rear windows are urethaned in place, make sure you have the little rubber blocks under the window so it doesn't slide down while the adhesive is setting. If the window slides down it can rest on a piece of dirt causing stress and breakage.
