amazing failure to run 700 1987

Seemingly unrelated!RightFront wheel dropped into a hidden hole when moving very slowly. Car dropped hard onto frame but backed out and then the motor diedand would kick but not continue running.
A look under neath finds nothing but a dent in the frame.

I ndde to learn how to check diatnostic codes.Any helP appreciated.

I don't believe your car will have OBD, I think that came about in 1989.

Chasing the problem is probably best approached by trying to determine if you have spark or fuel.

Of course I am just guessing but since it ran long enough to back out of the hole I wonder if it isn't a fuel supply issue? You might try spraying some starting fluid into the intake and see if it runs momentarily.

Thanks, Randy.....I had already gone to the car with my starting fluid and thought I would put it into the main vacume tube opening.
That is when I saw it had fallen off. Replaced it and the engine runs great.
Came in and saw your reply! Good plan and we all need to remember the first job is to determine if the problem is gas or spark.

Shocking however to find the engine doesen't run because the wheel went into a hole.

My son hit a slippery spot and slid into the curb a couple of years ago. A quarter of a mile later the car started running rough and then stalled. It wanted to fire up but could not run.

The impact had jarred loose the connection between intank pump and the pickup tube which at that time was above the fuel level in the tank. It was an interesting chase to find the root of the problem.

Glad you are up and running.

Randy

I know that 88 740 had OBD, not sure about 87. Complete info in the FAQ section on OBD and diagnostic codes. Those codes are mostly emission related and may not help with a no start.

Even though they are on the driver side you may have crushed a fuel line, have another look underneath. Where on the frame do you see the damage?
