Trans tunnel question 140-160

Quick question about the trans tunnel of the 140, is it the same width as the 122? Or is it wide enough to fit a bigger trans like the T5. The only reason I'm asking is I kept the tunnel sheet metal from the 71e I cut up, if it is I'll hold on to it if not I'll scrap it.

Trans tunnel question 140-160

I can't answer the width question but if the 71E tunnel is for a remote shift, the top part can be used to convert an Amazon to take the 140 type remote shifter. Saves a lot of fabrication, as it will fit over the Amazon tunnel.

Trans tunnel question 140-160

Nope, it is not the remote shifter style.

Trans tunnel question 140-160

T5 is a good swap because it has the shifter in the same spot as the remote Volvo shifter. So not a whole lot of help if you plan on T5'ing it.

Trans tunnel question 140-160

No no, I'm not planing a T5 swap. I just want to know if I should hold onto the tunnel I cut out, or if I should scrap it.

I'm thinning out the garage while I move it to my new garage, If it's wider than the stock 122 tunnel I'll keep it till someone else or maybe myself needs it.

There's three different tunnels 140-160

There's three different tunnels, what model is it from?

I put a Toyota box in mine, that fits in the smallest of the three.

It's the tunnel out of a wrecked 71 142e, it had the long shifter like the 122 as well as an M41 fitted underneath.

If it's wider than the stock 122 tunnel I'll hold on to it till either I or someone else needs it, I can't chuck something usable it seems. Otherwise its going to the scrapper like I did with the smashed up shell.

You'd have to weld the hole shut & cut a new one for the gearstick.

So, is the 142/144/145 trans tunnel wider than the 122? 140-160

Yes I know that, but my question from the start has been is it wider than the 122 tunnel? because if it's not wider I'd like to throw it out...

Not trying to be curt with anyone but I get the feeling nobody has read the Og. question. Like I said in one reply, I'm not planning a T5 swap at the moment.

So, is the 142/144/145 trans tunnel wider than the 122?

Maybe you should ask the guys in the 120-130 forum.

Well let me rephrase the question then.

Can you fit a T5 in a 140 series with the long shifter without tunnel mods, In a 71e to be exact?

No, as I already said: You'd have to weld the hole shut & cut a new one for the gearstick.

No you didn't answer my question Paul, I'm not asking if the hole for the shifter needs to be moved. I already know they don't match up on the old style hole. Don't worry about it, you obviously aren't getting the question I'm asking. I can get my hands on the extension piece with remote shifter hole and weld it in place, pretty easy to do.

I'll just leave it at that...

No you didn't answer my question Paul

Your question was answered several times.

You asked: Well let me rephrase the question then. Can you fit a T5 in a 140 series with the long shifter without tunnel mods, In a 71e to be exact?

I said: No, as I already said: You'd have to weld the hole shut & cut a new one for the gearstick.

I answered the question exactly as you asked it. To make the T5 fit, you would have to cut a hole in the tunnel for the gearstick. That's a tunnel mod.

I can get my hands on the extension piece with remote shifter hole and weld it in place, pretty easy to do.

If you are going to do that, then why not just take the whole tunnel from the late model car?!?
