trans. and power change 200 1992

i wanted to see what can be the reason for the auto. trans., to give some background the trans. was completly rebuilt 4 years ago by the previous owner. the trans has worked with out any problems until lately. after new years day i changed the trans fluid. there was no change or difference in the way the trans operated for several weeks. then there were several changes in the trans. which has not ended and makes the volvo not really usably. the trans does not shift correctly it doesnt skift well, the trans stays in gear longer and at high rpm before it will shift. the trans used to shift with hardley any noise or feeling of the trans shifting. has anyone seen this situation and can help me. thanks to anyone who can share their info. rich

Sounds like the kick down cable that runs from the intake manifold to the transmission is stuck in the wide open throttle position. To verify, open the hood and look at the "wheel" on the driver side intake manifold, is there a cable that is looped very loosely around the wheel? If so, the kickdown cable is stuck in it's sheath.

Replacement of the kickdown cable is advised but sometimes forcing oil down the cable will do the trick. If the cable assembly needs replaced, the transmission will need to be drained and the trans pan will have to be dropped. This is roughly a two hour job.

I had to free up the cable on my daughters car recently. The key for me was PB Blaster, time and patience. Remove the cable from the throttle drum and its mount and hold it up vertically then apply PB Blaster. Periodically try to push and pull the inner cable holding the sleeve and reapply PB Blaster. If you are lucky persistent and patient it will eventually free up. There are lots of success stories like this on the BB.
