Triple sidedraft carb manifold for B30/164 140-160 1969

I've seen pictures of a few triple-carb equipped 164s and have been looking for an appropriate manifold in a number of ways, including writing letters to marinas that deal in Volvo engines. To the best of my knowledge the manifold used is the same as furnished on the AQ165 marine engine, which was soon replaced by the AQ170. The AQ170 used downdraft Solex carbs. I had an AQ170 manifold and downdraft carbs for a while but found it would not clear the E/F model dual exaust manifolds so I sold it on ebay for about what I had in it. We went OTL before the snow and ice were supposed to set in today and when I got back there was a message on my phone from Wilbert Wall at the French Creek Marina in western New York, near the Thousand Islands. He said that he had the manifold and asked if I was interested and if so call him. So I called him and asked about it. Sounded like the right manifold all right. I asked about condition and he said it was new. So I asked about the price and he said the last known price on the manifold was $865. I told him that I was not sure the car I wanted to put it on was worth much more than that. From what he said, he might come down a bit on the price but I would not expect it to be much less than $800. I thanked him profusely for his effort and for calling me. If anyone is interested I can furnish his contact info. I'm sorely tempted to take a couple B18/20 aluminum manifolds and a B30E/F FI intake manifold and cobble something together.

What about the Mikuni side draft carbs off some of the older Japanese multi cylinder bikes like the 750/4cyl. Hondas. I have read off and on about these and Google could find the co. that can tune/modify jets for a car vs. bike application. Theory was these were simpler, ez to tune, and cheaper than the Webers. Of course the manifold modification still lurks--good winter project.

For bike carbies, you would want 38 or 40 flat slide, but then you have to make a manifold + have a decent motor to put them on.

The triple SU manifold only appeared on the early B30 marine motors, then they switched to triple dowdraught single barrel Solex more suited to a boat, but too small for a road motor.

Triple SUs or even the unloved CD Stombergs look nostalgic while being easy to istall and jet either for a B30A that has had cam installed similar to a K, or a replacement for D-Jet system.

I think there is a law that says that the time available for fun projects is in inverse proportion to the heat of the inclination. Or something. But I loved the "tower" line!

Why not fab a manifold that would hold triple Weber sidedrafts? Imagine what that would look and sound like with airhorns?

I'm convinced that the Webers offer GREAT performance but they are not what I want.
      1. I don't have any of them.
      2. They are expensive and many extra parts may be required to tune properly.
      3. I have no experience with them.
      4. I want a more or less "authentic" appearance.
      5. This will never be anything but a street machine.

It's still in the KgTrimning catalog, page 46:

But these days the price says 'utgar'. Which I'm just guessing is Swedish for 'if you have to ask, then you can't really afford it'.

Actually, "utgår" means that the item will be deleted or words to that effect. Is this a fairly new catalog? If it is, the good news is that "utgår" is in present, not past, tense of the word so the intakes might still be available.

Good luck with the hunt, George!

      Greetings from Norway,

        Thanks, Erling!
Actually it is NOT the manifold I was looking for and it is the 2005 catalog.....
Our snow never turned to ice, fortunately. We have about 15 cm of snow and temps about 0°C now - it was supposed to be colder but the sun is bright.
So we have electricity, heat and plenty groceries.

Because the port layout is different on a B18/B20 to a B30 it might be easier to start out with 2 early aluminium B18 inlet manifolds and weld those onto the flange of a B30E injection manifold. Or at least so I've theorised. I kind of fancy a triple SU 164.

"....it might be easier to start out with 2 early aluminium B18 inlet manifolds and weld

I think that is more or less what I said in the last line of my post:
"I'm sorely tempted to take a couple B18/20 aluminum manifolds and a B30E/F FI intake manifold and cobble something together."
I have several of each awaiting time and inclination, as the Tower of Pisa said to Big Ben,
"If you've got the time, I've got the inclination."
