gas smell S90-V90

I've been reading in the FAQ about fuel smell and possible fixes. I'm replacing my cat converter assembly today (coming from FCP) because of hole in pipe before cat. So I know I've been smelling exhaust from strange places because of this hole.

It's also been reported by my wife that occasionally she smells gas, the window shop guys when they pulled car into shop said they smelled gas.

Can anyone provide more areas to look other than FAQ section on fuel rail and gas hose.

Any leaks found and fixes recently on 960/s90. Mine has 170K on it. Thank you.

P700, I got some good advice on this recently from Spook. Wrap a piece of paper towel around the front end of the fuel rail, start the car (cold), drive less than a mile. Stop, get out and check the piece of paper towel-even if the gasoline eveporates before you get under the hood, it will leave a stain. You definitely want to eliminate this as a leak site! I was told by one brickster that the new improved rails have a brass plug, the old ones are aluminum. Mine is aluminum, but has not leaked so far. Stains on the front could have been caused by a nearby leak from the oil cap gasket.
Another source of gas smells is the overflow pipe/hose near the filler, but I guess you read about that in the FAQ.
    Good luck!

thanks sredwine for the tip, I'll give it a shot tomorrow. Here is the front of my fuel rail.

From my reading it seems like mine is different as I don't have some alum folded over to make the seal.

I have done my intake mani gasket long time ago and didn't replace injector orings and i'm wondering if I should have.

That could be a "leaker"-looks like the round plug is aluminum-and I see what might be a faint gray stain from leaks below the plug. Stains are usually brown, though. Your 0-rings would not be the cause of gas odor-they can cause a vacuum leak, which would give you a rough idle. If they were still soft when you changed the gasket, you are probably OK there. Check for vacuum leaks with unlit propane torch or FI cleaner, etc.
        Best of luck!

sure enough started it from cold, opened hood, looked at front of fuel rail and around the diameter of that end plug was fuel seeping out. JB alum weld tonight and new updated fuel rail coming in from Volvo dealer on monday and I'll be good to go for another 170K.
