Seat support structures! (59/60') 444-544

Hey guys, i'm about to plasma out the floors whle i'm back in town for the weekend to put the new 1x3" 11ga rails in. I am however wondering just how the structural support under the seats works that goes between te tranny tunnel and the rocker and seems to touch the stock frame spar. Is it a Hat-type channel with the floor board laying under it to close the section, or is it a closed member itself with the floor pan sitting on top of it? I know the rear bracing across the B pillars is a hat-channel type with an open section closed off by some sheet, but i'm really just not sure about these seat supports. Can anyone provide some direction? They also look different than those on the 1964 parts car.

That structure is critical. Have a look sideways on how the front legs on a PV work. The front chassis leg splits into a Y. The top half is welded onto the bulkhead. The bottom goes under the floor and ends at the crossmember the seats sit on. If you look underneath it is seam welded the back. The front chassis leg cantilevers against the crossmember, and it in turn feeds it load into the sil and transmission tunnel.

That is also why the transmission tunnel should be complete and structurally sound, especially on a powerful PV.

It is a U section with 2 reinforcements welded in where the seat supports go.

      Awesome, that solves that then.

Yeah, the spars are getting replaced by 1x3" 11ga square HR mild steel, and are going to run to the rear suspension points from the front. This means i'll likely do some cross-bracing similar to the factory and maybe make a tranny tunnel/driveshaft loop reinforcement out of 1x1" box .065 wall or something and tie into that.

That sounds OK. The structure is very different to a modern monocoque in that the front and rear are not connected by a single longitudinal beam. It sounds like you're about to change that. If the member under the seat is weak, then the bulkhead slowly starts to deform.

definitely change it up a serious amount. basically the passenger area will be about as rigid as possible, and everything else can do whatever it wants with some force. Perfect, i'll have to get back into town in a few weeks and get some work done then!

you can look at the pieces here on page 36. Looks like a hat channel fastened to the top face of the floor and the tunnel/outer body

      Seat support structures! (59/60') 444-544

      Hi,
Any idea if these seat support structures are the same as the ones used for a '59 Duett? I have yet to look at the catalog for part numbers
Some webshops only seem to be listing for the 444-544. I am wondering who might have them in stock.
      Thanks,
