volvo 240 DASH Covers 200 1991

Okay so my project car just came out shop from getting a fresh paint job,and does she look great!! Now I want to tackle the cracked dash that we all hate. Looking on the web for dash covers. I have heard that Cover Lay is a very good brand, however it looks as if they don't make one for a '91 245. Question will other years work, and if so which ones? Can anyone tell me of another great fitting brand that they have used. The reviews of the IPD looked mixed. Have you guys/gals tried the IPD product?

Thanks again,
Benny

Let me tell you a funny thing that happened to me with a 240 dash cover.I picked up a nice black dash cover from Pep Boys in Florida while on holidays for my '82 GLT.It fit proper covering up the usual cracks but I just set it on top without attaching it to the velcro tabs. Some years later I took my car to the local drag strip,Toronto Motor Park, with a group of co-workers to have some fun. There I was launching my beast down the track when the dash cover flew back and wrapped around my face.I didn't crash the car but I did only turn an 18 second quarter mile.I bet I would have been in the 17's if I wasn't distracted.
    Regards,

I have the IPD fabric dash covers on both my 200s. I've had the one in the 242 for over 10 years, and the one in the Bertone is probably even older. Both still look new and fit well. Fit and finish vary widely by brand, but I've been extremely happy with the ones IPD sells.
Here's the 242's dash with cover a couple years ago. The cover had been installed for at least 8 years when I took this photo.

I agree with Jorrell, if you've gone to the energy and expense of getting your car painted, just don't put the old cracked dash back in it. The 92-93 dashes without the center speaker grille do not crack very often. They all seem to have a bubble in the center of the dash, but no cracks unless they've been really abused. You might have to do some junkyard research on if you swap just the upper dash portion or if you need to swap in the entire setup with knee bolsters, different bracing behind the heater box, the improved glovebox etc. I plan to swap the whole setup from a 93 into my Bertone so I can steal its uncracked dash for my 242, but I haven't actually done the work yet.

If you get the newer dash for your Bertone make sure you also change the front console, the part that holds the ac switch, etc. Also the cover for the steering wheel and ignition lock. There was a small change to the configuration of dash, coin tray, and steering wheel cover. You may not "see it" right away but when you try to button everything up you'll then notice.I pulled a newr dash at a PNP not knowing about the differences. Now I need to get a newer center console, bummer.

I would recommend hitting the bone yard and looking for a near perfect dash from a 92 or 93, for some reason, they seem to be a bit more resilient and the replacement is pretty straight forward.

Forgot to mention that you will need to grab the knee bolster and mounting bracket as well from the newer donor.

I put a Dash Mat on about 23 yrs ago and it has served me well. Looks like it was made for the car.
