Thinking of buying a head from what the seller calls a B230FE engine from a '94 940. Never heard of an 'FE' designation - non-turbo for my vehicle ('93 940) and his '94 lists as B230F in all the references I can find.

Any thoughts?

      I talked to the guy about this head and it is definitely called (according to him) B230FE-engine related. He maintains that 940s for 94 and 95 had these and they have something to do with OBDII diagnostics being added.

        Dear yenna,

        May this find you well. The seller is confused. There is no B230FE engine listed in the Volvo pocket data booklet: Cars - 700,850,900 (1991-1996). There are engines designated B230- F, FB, FD, and FT. There is no FE variant.

        The 1994 and 1995 model year cars did not have OBDII. ODBII was installed in 1996 and later model years.

        His explanation sounds bogus...cylinder head castings had nothing to do with OBD. The FD engines have EGR (among some other things), so they used a different ECU and had more plumbing than the non-EGR engines.

        I, too, have never heard of an "FE" engine - certainly not in the North Am. market. Not to say such a thing absolutely doesn't exist, but in a lot of years of being a bit of a Volvo nutcase and trolling all the info I could find....never heard of it.

        i just never heard of b230fe
        google just came up with this post and the guys craigslist ad.
        there are many heads at many junkers so dont limit yourself.
