92 240 Hesitates, sputters, occasional stalling. Fault code 2-2-1 200

Hi Guys,

I am a relatively new owner of a 92 volvo 24 sedan, which I love! I am having a drive-ability problem with it, it hesitates and sputters at low rpm, and occasionally stalls at idle. After a stall I get fault code 2-2-1. I have cleaned the throttle body, and IAC. And replaced the intake and tb gaskets. Dist cap and rotor look good. I have also plugged two vacuum leaks, one in the hose to the carbon canister and the other in the hose to the climate vacuum tank. I'm beginning to think this might be an ignition issue, possibly spark plugs. Do any of you have experience with a similar problem?

Thanks,

Kevin

This code can be hard to diagnose, have you searched it on BB?
Other items to check would be fuel pressure and flow. Unlikely a plugged filter, but a bad FPR, although usually fails rich.
ALso I'd check the volts from the O2 sensor, just to see how it reads. A bad one will not cause the problem you have, but it would be good to see if it agrees with the lean hypothesis.

Thanks for the insight. This weekend I gave the brick an oil change, and new plugs, cap and rotor. It is running smoother, and stronger, but still hunts at idle. I'm thinking it's the fpr. I can smell gas in the vacuum line attached to the fpr, but it's not a real strong gas smell. Also, it runs better and stalls at idle less when I detach a vacuum line, adding unmetered air to the system. This would indicate a rich fuel mix right? Does this signify a failed fpr?

Thanks,

Kevin
