I have the chance to buy a MINT 1989 240 for under 2k.
Was bought by a family member 2 years ago from an elderly woman. Only had 88k miles on it and maintained amazingly. Sold to another family member who kept it spotless, and put low miles on it. Now I have the chance to buy it, should I?
It runs great, looks great, and cheap. Any input is welcomed! Thanks!

No, definately not. What you should do is buy me an air ticket to your hometown, pick me up at the a/p in said vehicle, with a few hundred bucks in gas money. I will drop you at your home, and you will feed me. I will relieve you this cumbersome burden and drive it to the nearest scrapyard. ;)

Well whatever you decide, I've noticed that the '89's are well rust proofed. After 21 years their bodies remain solid and look like they can go on another 21 years.

With all the room in the engine compartment, if the engine becomes outdated, something else could probably be dropped in.

As you get older, you'll come to appreciate the ease of entry into and exit from these cars.

Definitely someone should buy it.

As has been mentioned, if you can do 95% of the work yourself, it is probably a good value. This board is my favorite place to make inquiries and get good advice on parts and procedures for keeping your old Swede up and running, without ending up in the poorhouse doing it.

a 20 year old car even with low miles will need work. Then to keep it on the road, more work. If you are willing to do most of the work yourself, go for it. Probably not too economical to go that route if you have to pay someone to do maintenance and repair.

That's a good one, Dan. I find it amusing when someone comes here to this site and describes a near prisitne Volvo 200 series for next to no money and then actually asks the question "Should I buy it?". I mean it's like an alcoholic who just found a bottle of Jack Daniels and asks another alcoholic if he should have a drink!

That is a great way to put it. I have a great time drinking some Jack and do random cleaning/work on the good old 245. Can’t really drink and do really work on the car.

Too true! The truly clean 200 series are getting tougher and tougher to find as time goes on..
