front air dam 200 1991

My 91 wagon which I bought new is running strong with 240,000 miles on it. I sure hope it makes it to 300k or at least until all the kids are out of college. Recently I ran over some big tire debris on the interstate and it ripped the front air dam off. I remember reading warnings in the manual about the air dam's role in brake cooling. Is this a really a big deal? If so is it going to be hard to find a air dam and out it on? Thanks.

I've run without air dams and I always remove the front protector fan (which some say is important re cooling). I've never had a problem from either.

    Good ground clearance 200 1991

I prefer good ground clearance, so discard air dams.

People started putting air dams on their cars which interfered with the brakes cooling. So vented brake rotors were introduced to compensate. Which means removing the air dam would make the vented brakes even more efficient.

Check the wreckers in your area. You may find that they are taken, they get ripped away so often. I drove a V90 for years before I even knew it should have one. Brakes do not overheat in normal driving unless you often descend long hills or mountains.

I have a couple of air dams for 240's and will be traveling to Winston-Salem on Tues--then staying till Wednesday of the following week. I'll be at my daughter's house in north W-S and at my son's shop in Thomasville while I'm there. How does $10 sound for NY to NC delivery? What color is your car? Call my telephone # listed in the member profile--or try to connect with e-mail if you're interested. -- Dave

May be, but I can't see it being that much of an influence. I would bet that until you find one, it would be fine.

Actually, if it was that much of an issue, you would be able to smell the brakes if they overworked.

Here is a good spot to get used parts.
