940 fuel pump check valve question (PLEASE HELP QUICK)

It is getting colder and darker outside, so I hope help help comes quick.

Ok ...I got the carriage off the car, got the filter bolts broke loose - no prob.

Now I am putting the check valve in ..and there lays a small SPRING W/ a rubber tip on the pointed end.

I am thinking the pointed, rubberized end goes into the fuel pump, then screw in the check valve. ...IF it was there to start. Maybe this was just laying there and does not come into play at all.
Am I right? If not, please enlighten me.

I should have been paying better attention.

Thank you ...BB !

I left it out ..

...and I do hope that is right.

I could find no reference to that spring anywhere - FAQ's or parts sources - so it must be something that just showed up there on my work space.

If you see this, and know - please give me confirmation.

Thanks
