Phil, the stuff you want is a 3m product called Windo-Weld Ribbon Sealer. It's available at most auto paint supply stores or body shop supply stores. Comes in several different widths. I find that the 5/16 is pretty close to whats under your carpets and such. It comes in a roll, with the paper separator on it, like you sometimes find still attached to the stuff in the cars. Sure makes it easy to use, you can even cut it with a scissors...unless you have left it in the sun first! 5/16 is 3m number 051135 08611. Sometimes listed in glass supply catalogs as "auto glass replacment kit". Most glass houses are using polyurethane in a caulking type tube these days though, I think.

If the home improvement stores [Lowes, Home Depot or possibly a large Ace Hardware] don't have it, I have gotten it from air conditioning people [not auto a/c], comes on a roll with foil back and peels off. In addition to baby oil, paint thinner [mineral spirits, not lacquer or acetone] works as a solvent.

I use to sell it at NAPA auto parts. Really any parts store should have it. Trick is finding a parts store where they know what they are doing.

It depends. Are you looking for INDIAN Black Elephant snot or AFRICAN Black Elephant snot?
The elephants Snot as well as the Ears are very different between these two majestic beasts.

Sorry, just kidding

The stores only carry the Indian stuff. African elephants are wilder and hard to get close to, to collect their snot. Besides, because of the climate, theirs is drier, so less sticky.

I believe it's called byutl tape[sp].If you find it or something like it be careful you don't get where you don't want it.I have found that if you want to remove tar or tar like substance just use baby oil.It will dissolve the tar very easily and smell good too.

For the [SP] it is Butyl. Might help with an internet search.
